“Remembering the Past for Building the Future” with Jean-Marie Simon.
Writer and photographer, Jean-Marie Simon joins us to discuss her book “Guatemala: Eternal Primavera, Eterna Tiranía  [Eternal Spring: Eternal Tyranny].” We’ll speak to Simon about her work documenting human rights violations during Guatemala’s civil war in the 1980s, how her photos created a historical memory of the armed conflict and her use of the website Kickstarter to fund her new book’s publication. On eve of Guatemala’s Peace Accords, we have a conversation with Simon about what the future holds for a country where many still do not acknowledge its past.

Kara Andrade is an Ashoka fellow working in Central America. She is co-founder of HablaCentro.com, a local mobile-driven network of regional citizen information websites in Latin America where contributions can be anonymous.

Violeta Rosales is a current editoral/reporter intern with HablaGuate. A 2010-2011 Fulbright Alumna to Egypt she research and writes about politics, global issues, the arts & music.

Nicholas Wirtz is a freelance journalist in Guatemala since 2005. In 2010, he was asked to help brand Antigua, one of Guatemala's leading tourist destinations and recently started working with Kara Andrade as editor of the Vozz project website at Vozz.com.gt

Guest: Jean-Marie Simon author of book, Guatemala: Eternal Spring, Eternal Tyranny, first published by W.W. Norton & Company in 1988. The book was published in Spanish as Guatemala: Eterna Primavera, Eterna Tiranía in 2010.
