I just wanted to send a friendly reminder about the solidarity delegation to to visit indigenous farming communities in Guatemala and accompany them in their struggle for land reform. The delegation will be happening from March 3-11, so we need to finish receiving applications ASAP so we can make final plans and people can get their plane tickets. (Airfare is currently actually cheaper than when I got my tickets, and currently looks like about $570 round trip, though you might find even cheaper if you are more clever than I).

Let me know if you or someone you know is interested and I can get you the application materials. They're short!

Here is more information about the delegation, planned by the Guatemala Solidarity Project:

I'm helping organize a solidarity delegation to visit organized peasant communities struggling against imperialism in Guatemala during the first week of March. A small group of Nashville folks are already planning to go, and we would love to invite you to apply to go with us.

There are also opportunities to stay in Guatemala longer to study Spanish or get involved in longer-term human rights accompaniment, which we could talk about.

Speaking Spanish or a Maya language is a plus, but not required. We will be set up for translation. Also, we invite both interested individuals as well as people involved in community-based social movements in the US that would like to build relationships with social movements in Central America, which have a lot to teach us both about how to "occupy" and how to create sustainable alternatives once there.

For a bit more information that came out of our last delegation, and about the current land struggle in Guatemala, you can read Katy's and my article about it here: http://themormonworker.wordpress.com/2011/08/12/food-crisis-in-the-polochic-exacerbates-as-government-repression-continues/

If you're interested, please email both GSP  solidaridadguatemala@yahoo.com, and me. Feel free to share this with others you think would be interested.

Hope you are well!
