Join NISGUA in demanding respect for community referendums
In response to urgent needs in Guatemala, NISGUA is coordinating a letter campaign demanding that the Guatemalan government respect indigenous peoples'self-determination and grassroots democracy.
Communities across Guatemala have used referendums to voice their opposition to natural resource extraction and mega-projects that threaten theirlivelihoods and rights as indigenous peoples. Joinus today in urging the Guatemalan government to respect communityreferendums.

When gathering signatures, please use this bilingual letter bymaking double-sided copies, one side in English, one in Spanish. Peopleshould sign both sides. All signed letters can be sent to NISGUA at 43614th Street, Suite 409, Oakland, CA 94612. Letters will be submitted tovarious groups in Guatemala to be used in supporting their political advocacywork.
