Sandra Moran, a Guatemalan lesbian activist, feminist, and artist, has been organizing women and working for gender equality for over 20 years. She lived in exile from 1980-1994. During that time, she helped build an international movement in solidarity with Guatemala, denouncing grave human rights violations.
In 1994, Sandra returned to Guatemala to participate in the formation of the Women's Sector and to participate in the Civil Society Assembly at the negotiations for the Peace Accords. The Women's Sector is an alliance of 33 organizations throughout Guatemala. Sandra continues to be one of the leaders of the grassroots women's movement that has grown to become a powerful force in Guatemala.
Sandra was recently featured on the Peace X Peace blog Voices from the Frontlines.
