  Guatemala’s Elections: Clean Polls, Dirty Politics
  Guatemalans go to the polls in September 2011 to elect a president, the Congress and local officials. The vote itself is likely to be reasonably free, but violence and unregulated campaign finance imperil the country’s political institu- tions. Deteriorated security, drug traffickers’ brutality and polarised politics leave candidates especially vulnerable to attacks.

  Open Letter for Victor Leiva
  On February 20, 2011, our friend Victor Leiva, artist and founding member of the collective Caja Ludica, was taken from us. Victor was shot to death while leaving his work in the Historical Center of Guatemala City, in circumstances which have not been clarified.

  On the 2nd February 2011 our friend Víctor Leiva, known as “el Mono”, left the cultural center where he was taking dance classes. Moments later gunshots cut his life short.
