    At around 10am this morning, approximately 80 people from San Jose del Golfo and surrounding municipalities wearing hats and shirts from KCA tried to open access to the mine. They were unarmed, but many were acting very threateningly towards those at the puya. Many of the mine supporters were young women, saying they want employment.

    On December 7, the communities in resistance to mining in San José del Golfo and San Pedro Ayampuc held their ground at the roadblock they have maintained since March of this year as the police attempted to forcefully evict them.
  • Communities in Peaceful Resistance of “La Puya” meet with the President of the Republic
    Today, representatives of the communities of San José del Golfo and San Pedro Ayampuc participated in a reunion called by the President of the Republic, Otto Pérez Molina. The meeting was scheduled for 10:30 in the Presidential House. The Minister of Energy and Mines, Erick Archila, the Interior Minister, Mauricio López Bonilla and representatives of the American company, Kappes, Cassiday and Associates also participated. Community members asked that the mining representatives leave, as the conversation was with the government, not the company.
